Fusarium strawberry wilting: how to prevent and treat

Today, many varieties of strawberries are cultivated. Some of them ripen early, contain a lot of sugar and retain their marketable look, some - with a large amount of sugar they deteriorate quickly and do not tolerate transportation at all. And everyone treats diseases differently: some are immune to gray rot and powdery mildew, but they are absolutely not resistant to spotting. But almost all varieties are affected by Fusarium. Whether phytophtora lesion is dangerous, what is fusarium strawberry withering, how to prevent it and how to treat it - we will tell further.

What is dangerous and where does it come from

Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) is an extremely dangerous disease, as it causes a general infection of the hive (from the roots to the entire surface part). The disease mainly occurs in the summer when it is too hot. Sources of Fusarium lesions are weeds, some vegetable crops and soil contaminated with fungal diseases.

Find out how to deal with diseases of strawberries, especially with brown spot.
Parasitic fungus Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. ex Fr./sp. fragariae Winks et Williams can save life for a long time (sometimes up to 25 years), striking new plants every year. Moreover, almost all vegetable crops are infected.

Important! Yield losses from Fusarium can be 30-50%.

How manifest

When fusarium wilt, initially brownish spots appear on the leaves, and signs of necrosis are noticeable along the edges. Shoots and antennae also gradually change shade (turn brown).

Did you know? At first, the Fusarium wilt was called "Lancashire disease" because it was first discovered in Lancashire in 1920. Fusarium disease was declared a striking disease in 1935.
In the process of developing the disease, the leaves are screwed inside, the ovary ceases to develop on the affected shrub, and at the last stage the bush settles, the socket falls, and the strawberry itself stops growing. After 1-1.5 months, the plant dies.

How to prevent

Since every gardener sooner or later faces diseases of the strawberry, it will be useful for everyone without exception to know the basic rules for the prevention of strawberry fusarium wilt:

  1. When planting, use only high-quality, healthy material.
  2. Properly, taking into account the climatic conditions, to choose a variety.
  3. Follow the schedule of change of plants (change every 2-3 years for new cultures).
  4. Perform soil fumigation before planting.
  5. Thin out strawberries only after the harvest is fully harvested.
  6. Constantly fight weeds and pests.
Did you know? The garden strawberry chromosomes are several times larger than those of wild strawberries. Therefore, it does not pereopolylya with any species.
To prevent fusarium, lime or potassium oxide is added to the soil. Shelter beds are also helped by opaque (preferably black) vinyl film.

Drugs from fusarium wilt

If there are signs of fusarium wilt, it is necessary to conduct a laboratory analysis (only he will be able to identify the parasitic fungus) and, if lesions are confirmed, start fighting.

Biologics

Biological remedies (Agat 23K, Gumate-K) are more effective as a preventive measure. They process the roots of seedlings before planting.

A non-pathogenic isolate F. Oxysporum, which was first successfully used in 1991 by Japanese scientists Tezuka and Makino, can also be used as a biological product.

Important! In the initial stage of the disease and for the prevention of effective use "Trichodermin" or "Phytodoc".

Chemical

In the case of mass destruction, it is recommended to use "Fundazol", "Chorus" and "Benorad", which are sprayed with strawberries (you can use this drug when watering through a drip tube).

Is it possible to fight in the active phase of development

Experts confirm the effectiveness of "Fitosporin" against fusarium strawberry withering. However, if the damaged plants cannot be cured, they are removed from the site and destroyed. After cleaning the area, the soil should be treated with Nitrafen.

Important! If the disease has affected the whole strawberry plantation, it is better to switch to varieties that have immunity against this problem. Re-plant strawberries will be possible only after 5-6 years.

Resistant varieties

In order not to suffer the question of how to get rid of Fusarium, you should give preference to varieties resistant to this fungus:

  • Arosa;
  • "Bohemia";
  • Gorella;
  • "Judibel";
  • Capri;
  • "Christine";
  • "Omsk Early";
  • Redgontlet;
  • "Sonata";
  • "Mascot";
  • "Totem";
  • "Tristar";
  • "Flamenco";
  • "Florence";
  • "Alice";
  • "Yamaska".
Now you are armed with information about what is Fusarium and how to resist it. It should be remembered that the berry is less sick, for which it is properly looked after. After all, the disease is easier to prevent than to treat even at the initial stage.
