Poultry suffers from parasites no less than other animals, therefore, to increase the productivity of chickens and the quality of their meat, the owners have to use anthelmintic drugs from time to time. Effective and inexpensive representative of this group of compositions deserves considered Levamizol, which will be discussed further.
Composition, release form, packaging
Medicines, the main active ingredient of which is levamisole hydrochloride, are supplied to pharmacies in various forms: both powder and injection solution.
In veterinary practice, the last, 10% variant is more often used, since it is easier to dose, and the negative effect of the medicine on the gastrointestinal tract of animals and birds is minimal. In addition to the active ingredient, the solution also includes sodium metabisulfite, Trilon B, sodium citrate, methyl hydroxybenzoate, water and citric acid.

As a result of parenteral administration of the solution, levamisole hydrochloride is quite rapidly absorbed and distributed to all tissues within 30–50 minutes, reaching during this time its maximum concentration in the body. 
The therapeutic effect of the drug in this case continues for 6–9 hours after the injection, and the remnants of the drug are eliminated from the body along with urine and feces for 3–4 days.
Most often the bird is sucked up with medicine, but in some situations, especially large birds (such as turkeys or broilers) can be injected.
Important! According to the level of impact on the body, Levamisole is classified as a moderately hazardous drug of the third danger class, thanks to which it is well tolerated by both domestic poultry and animals, without causing local irritation or other unpleasant consequences of use.
Indications for use
If we consider that we are talking about the anthelmintic composition, it is easy to guess that the main indication for its use will be the prevention and treatment of helminthic invasion. The composition effectively copes with adult individuals of pulmonary nematodes and gastrointestinal nematodes, as well as their larval forms. 
Usually, this medicine is prescribed for ascariasis, necatoria, ankilostomiasis, and other similar conditions. The immunomodulating potential of levamisole makes it possible to use it in the treatment of infectious diseases (for example, recurrence of a herpevirus, rheumatoid arthritis or chronic hepatitis B).

Chicken Dosage
For any poultry, the calculation of the required amount of Levamisole is carried out based on the weight of the birds. So, for 1 kg of live weight of a chicken, 20-40 mg of the active substance of the composition should fall, and closer to 20 mg is for ordinary small layers and about 40 mg for broilers. 
If possible, it is advisable to give the medicine in the evening, stirring the powder in the feed or diluting the injection solution in drinking water.
Important! The next day, all remnants of food and drink should be immediately removed, so as not to risk the health of chickens.
Special instructions and precautionary measures
Any drug affects the characteristics of meat, dairy and egg products obtained from farm animals and poultry.
In the case of Levamisol, chickens can be slaughtered no earlier than eighteen days after processing, and eggs can be used as food only after three days. Simultaneously with the anthelmintic treatment is prohibited to use other drugs against insects, lice, louse.
When working with the composition, it is recommended to adhere to the same safety rules as when using other similar preparations: observe personal hygiene (be sure to wash hands after contact with the medicine), do not use empty bottles from under the medicine for domestic purposes, or throw them into one place with household waste. 
Contraindications and side effects
If the correct dosage is observed and a suitable preparation is used, there should be no side effects: the chickens are active, eat normally and walk.
