How to distinguish a drake from a female

It is no secret that males and females of indoutok require special conditions of detention and care, which differ from each other. To determine the sex of these birds at an early age is very difficult even for an experienced poultry farmer. But as they grow older, they acquire distinct differences in appearance, behavior, and even the timbre of the voice. We will talk about this in more detail.

External differences

The male is usually larger than the female. Its weight is on average 5-6 kg, while a duck weighs less than 3 kg. The drake has a thick long neck, a powerful breast, strong wings, a massive forehead, a large rounded head. The duck looks more elegant, its body is not so developed.

On skin and color

The skin on the head is also a distinctive feature. The skin of the male has a bright red color, to the touch they are much thicker and rougher, there is also a hanging part, which slightly covers the eyes.

Important! Drakes have a growth on their beak.

Females have less bright skin, and the area between the eyes, which is deprived of plumage, slightly covers their neat beak.

The feathering of the drake is brighter, and that of the female is light and nondescript. Males have a tuft around their neck, built of long feathers, as well as a beard, which deprives ducks. Feathers on the tail of the representatives of the stronger sex create a rounded shape, while, in the ladies, it is smooth and straight.

Did you know? Wild ducks are able to dive to a depth of 6 m during a hunt.

By behavior

Drakes in 7-14 days of life begin to show aggression.

They are still bully, and not only in relation to individuals of their own age, but also to their older comrades. The ducks are more calm and shy - they hide from people, aggressive males and other animals that do not inspire confidence.

It will also be useful for you to learn about the peculiarities of growing the indoutok, how to breed the indoutok at home, how to feed the indoutok, when the indouki begin to be born, how to properly incubate the eggs, when to cut the indoutok for meat.

During walks and as they mature, the males change their behavior. They always let the females forward, even when swimming. A drake can be in front of a duck only if it misses its sight. This happens mainly during the incubation period.

By voice

Indeliut also differ from each other in voice.

Important! Female idiots lack the ability to sizzle.

Females, as a rule, are quiet and make only the characteristic sound "uk". Drakes almost all the time hiss. If they feel in danger, the hissing volume increases.

Gender Identification

There are three main methods for determining the sex of indoutok, which are experienced by experienced poultry farmers:

  1. Take the duck in hand. Use your fingers to slightly open the cloaca, slightly stretching it towards the placement of the penis. If you see a small formation (protrusion of 2 mm in size), then hold the male in your hands, and if you don’t see pseudopenis, it’s the female.
  2. Hold the duck by the paws upside down. The drake will start spinning in attempts to look around, while the duck will hang still, afraid to move.
  3. The oldest method is voice detection. They take the bird in their hands and listen to the sounds it makes. If only hissing is heard, the male is in your hands, the quack is female.

It is not so easy to determine the gender of a sex, but it is necessary to do it at an early age - otherwise the result will not please you.

Did you know? Ducks in flight can reach speeds of over 100 km / h.
Improper bird care can cause them to form same-sex couples. Females can become dominant and start behaving aggressively.

That is why it is very important to pay due attention to gender identification of ducklings.
