UK connected their cows to 5G

Cisco from the United States and the state agricultural engineering center of Great Britain jointly commissioned a mobile test bench using 5G technology at a cattle-breeding farm in the United Kingdom.

For the experiment, cows were selected from 50 herds, each of which has 180 individuals. They were implanted with ear tags on which 5G sensors are located, which allow to determine the location of animals and report their state of health in real time.

The selected animals were connected to the Internet with the help of special collars, which ensure a more harmonious operation of the automatic milking machines. The device performs recognition of the cow, accurately captures its udder and awards food. On April 13 of this year, US President Donald Trump made a promise to citizens of the country to provide access to 5G in the very near future.

5G (fifth generation) is the 5th generation of mobile communication technology, which is characterized by very high data transfer rates. A record speed of 5G was recorded in Sweden. It amounted to 15 Gbit / s, which is 40 times faster than current wireless networks. The developers claim that the speed can be even higher - up to 20 Gb / s, which will enable the transmission of video in online mode at a resolution of 8K (Ultra HD).
