In Russia, onions began to go up

In the markets of Russia, there is again a tendency to the rise in price of onions. For three weeks, the cost of onions in Russia only declined, and only in the last days of April the product went up again, according to EastFruit experts, based on daily monitoring data.

On average, onions became more expensive by 16% compared to last week. Today, in the main production regions of Russia, a vegetable from local storage facilities is supplied at a price of at least 20-30 rubles / kg ($ 0.31-0.47 / kg).

Producers say that the demand for the product is growing steadily, while its stocks in vegetable stores are depleted. At the same time, the reduction in the number of onion proposals of acceptable quality becomes obvious.

This week, the market of the Russian Federation was visited by the first lots of imported onions from the 2019 harvest. Such a vegetable is worth more than an old local product. Thus, onions from Egypt are sold not less than for 33-38 rubles / kg ($ 0.52-0.60 / kg), and Kazakhstan onions - for 32 rubles / kg ($ 0.50 / kg). Market operators expect an increase in demand for Egyptian onions in early May, but only if the price falls.
