Processing of garlic before and after germination. Use of herbicides and other disinfectants

Processing of garlic before planting and after receiving the seedlings plays one of the important roles in the further production of a good harvest, and that is why you should not neglect this.

What is disinfection of seeds and why it is produced will be discussed later in the article. We will also share the most common ways to carry out such disinfection. For clarity, the article will be presented useful video, which describes in detail all the nuances.

What is it and what is it made for?

Processing the plant before planting is the process of disinfecting the seed or its seedlings, so that in the future they can resist diseases and pests that may be in the ground where it will be placed. Absolutely clean and healthy seed is the key to a good and healthy harvest..

When does it happen?

Processing is performed immediately before sowing or after the appearance of the first shoots, which can occur both in spring and in autumn.

It all depends solely on the type of garlic chosen for planting: spring is used in spring and in autumn in winter. There are no significant differences in the order of processing seed seeds of spring and winter varieties of garlic.

Primary steps for processing seed

This type of treatment is the selection of seed. It is necessary to choose a few cloves from the expected amount of garlic intended for planting and carefully check them for the presence of sores, rot, dryness, yellow spots, etc. They must be completely clean, without any flaws.

It is also advisable to choose teeth of impressive size (both for winter planting, and for spring, whose teeth are relatively smaller in size). It is important to prevent excessive drying of garlic cloves, because it thin their upper scales, which cannot be injured.

Also, it will significantly slow down their growth.

If there is a shortage of seed, then need to sort garlic cloves into several categories in size and land them in different places. This will allow you to get a better quality crop and help avoid the appearance of shadows from more advanced shoots on those that are smaller.

Seed disinfection

This secondary treatment consists in disinfecting the seed or, in some cases, already sprouting it with the help of various means: ammonia, phytosporin, manganese, copper sulfate, ash solution and herbicides after germination. Detailed instructions for their use will be provided below.

Liquid ammonia

Ammonia is a life-saving remedy for pests and diseases of garlic. With the help of this tool, garlic shoots are fed, which allows them to be disinfected and filled with nitrogen, which garlic can absorb only from the soil.

The first feeding with liquid ammonia is made before it is planted: the pre-moistened soil is watered with the prepared solution. The second dressing of garlic is done when the first leaves appear. And then - 1 time in 10 days. This enriches the soil with nitrogen and guarantees a good harvest.

The solution is prepared as follows.: 50 ml is needed for every 10 liters of water. ammonia.

Phytosporin

Phytosporin (Phytosporin M) is a special preparation designed to protect absolutely any plants (indoor, in the garden) from pests, fungi, and simply for their prevention.

Soaking the planting material that has undergone primary treatment in growth regulators gives an excellent effect. and also guarantees a great harvest.

Potassium permanganate

Processing with potassium permanganate is one of the most common methods that experienced gardeners recommend. It is the easiest, cheapest and safest. There is a significant difference in the processing of winter and spring varieties of garlic by potassium permanganate. If the winter type of garlic is used for planting, then it should be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for no more than 1 - 2 minutes, and if it is spring, then for 10 - 12 hours.

We offer to see a visual video about soaking garlic before planting in a solution of potassium permanganate:

Copper sulphate

Copper sulfate treatment is a two-step process., which includes the use of an additional substance - salt. First you need to rinse the selected garlic cloves in saline solution (for every 5 liters of water, add 3 tablespoons of salt).

To simplify this manipulation, the seed may be wrapped in a cotton cloth or bag. And only after that copper sulfate is used:

  1. In 10 liters of water, you need to add 1 tablespoon of this drug.
  2. Then put a bag or garlic cloth in it for 1 minute and plant it without washing or drying.

This method prevents the possible occurrence of diseases. and helps resist those already in the soil.

Ash solution

For this method, you first need to directly prepare the ash solution. Add 2 cups of wood ash to 2 liters of hot water. After you have to wait for the mixture to cool, and the ash will settle on the bottom of the glass. It is in this settled liquid that the planting material is placed for 1 - 2 hours. Ash solution is best used for planting winter varieties of garlic in the fall, because it is an excellent antifungal agent in a moist substrate.

Herbicide after germination

The use of herbicide is mainly aimed at getting rid of unwanted weeds near the planted garlic. AND There are drugs separately for both winter and spring garlic.

When using herbicides, it is very important not to neglect the precautionary measures and to follow the instructions on the package.

For winter varieties

For the treatment of these varieties of garlic, the following drugs are perfect: Totril, Hurricane Forte, Fyuzilad Forte, Stopm, Goal, Targa Super, etc. For example, Totril perfectly copes with annual vegetation. Spraying this drug should be done only when the first leaves have already appeared, at the following dosage: 15 - 30 ml. on 1 acres of land. And Hurricane Forte will help to quickly get rid of perennial weeds dicotyledonous and cereal. Processing is done after harvesting garlic in the fall. Approximately 15 ml is used per one hundred square meters.

For spring varieties

The following preparations are used for the treatment of spring varieties:

  • Stomp.
  • Goal.
  • Targa Super.
  • Fyuzilad Forte.

Stomp eliminates annual weeds. This preparation processes the soil on which the first shoots have already appeared and there are no weeds. The ground must be wet. 30 - 40 ml is enough for 1 hundred square meters of land. Targa Super also eliminates the annual weeds in the period when the first few leaves have already appeared. In order to process 1 weave, you need 15 ml. this drug.

Attention! Treatment with this drug is carried out at a temperature not higher than 27 degrees. At very high or very low temperatures, the drug acts very slowly.

Conclusion

Of course, in the processing of garlic with one or another substance, it is necessary to observe the dosage as precisely as possible so as not to cause harm to the sowing material, as a result of which the entire subsequent crop will be spoiled. And this process if you follow the instructions as accurately as possible, will bring only benefit.
