Veterinary drug "Sinestrol": indications and contraindications, instructions

Animals, like humans, may experience problems with the genitals. In such cases, immediate treatment is necessary, as there remains an increased risk of mortality and infertility. For the treatment of certain pathologies of the genital organs in animals, veterinarians often use the synthetic hormone drug Sinestrol. In this article we will talk about the instructions for the use of "Sinestrol" in veterinary medicine, as well as what useful effects this drug will have for animals.

Brief description and composition of the drug

"Synestrol" refers to hormonal synthetic drugs of the estrogen group. The generic name in international pharmacology is hexestrol-2%. The medicine is an oily solution of sun-golden color, it does not dissolve in water. The tool is intended for injection.

Did you know? For the first time, a hormonal drug for therapy became available for purchase in 1923. This drug is called insulin. In the same year, Banting and Mcleod were awarded the Nobel Prize for the synthesis of animal insulin.

The main active substance, synestrol (2%), and excipients, such as vegetable or olive oil, is consumed in the preparation. Synestrol has some differences from steroid estrogens, however the biological features of these substances are identical.

Release form, packaging

The drug is offered on the pharmaceutical veterinary market in pre-packed glass cones of 1, 5 and 10 ml. Each cone is tightly sealed with rubber corks. Aluminum protective caps are mounted on top of the caps to keep the cones tight.

Pharmacological properties

Synestrol is a product that has been artificially developed by scientists. This synthetic substance acts in the same way as the female sex hormone (estrone). The difference is that the synthetic substance acts more efficiently and faster.

After the introduction of this substance, synestrol, along with estronum, begins regulate and adjust the processes of the menstrual cycle. The positive effect of synestrol on target organs was noted. This effect is possible due to the effect of this hormone on specific receptors. Hexestrol is able to activate blood supply to the genitals of the animal, increase the number of structural elements of the tissue of the muscular layer of the uterus, activate the function of the endometrium. Pharmacists have noted the positive effect of synestrol on the mammary glands of the animal. Hexestrol is able to increase the sensitivity of the female genital organs through its direct effect on their motor skills.

Important! Hormones have no species predisposition. Therefore, they act equally on the entire animal world.

After the injection, the components of the drug in a short period of time penetrate into all organs and tissues of animals. The effect is long-lasting, the decay products are displayed quickly, and the liver is involved.

For whom is suitable

"Sinestrol" is used to treat endometritis, to enhance the natural extraction of mummified fruits, to enhance the function of the mammary glands and for ovarian hypofunction. Experts say that this tool can be used for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the genital organs the following animals:

  • dogs and cats;
  • cattle (cattle);
  • pigs, horses, goats;
  • the sheep.

Dosage and administration

"Sinestrol" you need to prick intramuscularly or subcutaneously, since the tablet form of this tool does not exist. The fact is that hormonal substances are not able to be absorbed into the body through the organs of the gastrointestinal tract (hormones simply break down into components and are removed from the body). It should also be noted that before use, the drug should be heated to the body temperature of animals (37-40 ° C). If the crystals of synestrol were depressurized, and you immediately noticed it, then they must be melted in a water bath until complete dissolution.

Cattle

Instructions for use "Sinastrol" for cattle says:

  • a heated 2% solution of the drug is administered to cows and heifers at 0.25-2.5 mg;
  • if cows were diagnosed with ovarian hypofunction, then double intramuscular administration of the drug is necessary at intervals of 5-10 days. Dosages should be in the range of 0.05-0.15 ml per individual. In this particular case, the hormone hexestrol is able to normalize the menstrual cycles, in the future such an animal will be able to fertilize;
  • for the treatment of inflammatory processes of the endometrium and the prevention of the reverse delayed development of the uterus after delivery, "Sinestrol" is used twice at intervals of 24 hours. Dosages range from 0.4 to 0.45 ml for every 100 kg of animal weight;
  • for the treatment of chronic inflammation of the endometrium in cows, the drug is administered once. The dosage is 0.25-0.3 ml injection per 100 kg of cow weight. Further use of the drug for treatment is discussed with the local veterinarian;
  • pyometra in cows is treated by double administration of the drug with an interval of a day. The dosage of the first injection should be calculated as follows: 0.45-0.5 ml of the drug per 100 kg of animal weight. The dose for the second injection is 0.25-0.3 ml per 100 kg;
  • for expelling mummified fruits from cattle using "Sinestrol" at a dosage of 0.5 mg per 1 centner of weight. In the case of poor efficacy, re-injection should be discussed with the veterinarian;
  • in case of incomplete disclosure of the cervix, the drug is injected subcutaneously in the same manner as described in the paragraph above;
  • in order to enhance the function of the mammary glands in cows, the therapy is administered with "Synestrol", the duration of which should be 45 days. The drug is administered in the dosage of 0.5-1.0 mg per 100 kg every 2 days for 15 days.

Horses

For the treatment and prevention of diseases of the genital tract in horses, "Sinestrol" is used in the same way as for cows. Before the injection, it is necessary to calculate the dosage, according to the rules described in the paragraph above (do not forget about the ratios of the substance to the weight of the animal). Special cases should be discussed directly with the veterinarian. Standard allowable dosages for horses are: 0.5-2.5 mg per 100 kg of weight. In cases of exaggeration of dosages, the effect of the drug may worsen.

Personal precautions and personal care

The features of the effect of the artificial sex hormone on the animal's body at its first use have not yet been established. "Sinestrol" is allowed to use simultaneously with other drugs, with the exception of the simultaneous use of hormones and folic acid, as well as drugs acting on the thyroid gland. In this case, the effect of hexestrol is enhanced. You should also consider the fact that this drug is able to suppress the effectiveness of the male genital organs, anticoagulants and diuretics. In addition, an effective antidote has not yet been developed (sometimes the animal's body reacts to artificial hormones in a non-standard way), therefore, if necessary, symptomatic therapy is carried out.

Important! Livestock products can be used for cooking immediately after injection with Systrol.

Rules of personal hygiene when using "Sinestrol":

  • during injections, it is necessary to comply with the established safety rules for working with hormonal drugs. At the end of the treatment procedure, the hands must be rinsed well, using a soap solution;
  • if hexestrol gets on the mucous membrane or in the eye cavity, urgent rinsing should be done;
  • vials that contained the drug can not be further used in everyday life. It is forbidden to use the bottles as children's toys.

Contraindications and side effects

The drug is prohibited to use if the animal is suffering. acute or chronic liver and kidney damage. Sinestrol is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. Before starting therapy, it is better to coordinate all the nuances with an experienced veterinarian. Experts say that with the introduction of hexestrol in the prescribed dosages, side effects do not occur. If the drug is used without severe symptoms, it is possible the development of ovarian cysts in cattle and horses.

Shelf life and storage conditions

"Sinestrol" should be kept only in a well-sealed vial, in a place where solar heat and moisture do not flow. Storage space should be out of the reach of children and away from food. In ideal conditions, the drug can be stored for 5 years. After the expiration of this period, the tool is subject to disposal, in accordance with all norms and rules of the law. Now you know how "Sinestrol" acts on the organism of animals, and how (in what doses) it is used for cattle and horses. In case of any non-standard situations it is recommended to contact the district veterinarian.
