"Deksafort" for farm and domestic animals: how to apply, where to prick

To overcome this or that ailment, it is not only people who have to resort to drugs. Drug treatment of animals, as well as people, requires special awareness of the drug and its action. Consider, for example, the drug that is used in cases of inflammatory and allergic processes in animals - Dexfort.

Description and composition of the drug

"Deksafort" - is a comprehensive tool that provides anti-edema, anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effect. The drug is hormonal and contains the following active ingredients:

  • dexamethasone phenylpropionate (a synthetic analogue of cortisol) - 2.67 mg;
  • dexamethasone sodium phosphate - 1.32 mg;
  • sodium chloride - 4.0 mg;
  • sodium citrate - 11.4 mg;
  • benzyl alcohol - 10.4 mg;
  • methylcellulose MH 50 - 0.4 mg;
  • water for injection - up to 1 ml.

Release form and packaging

"Deksafort" comes in the form of a white suspension, bottled in 50 ml bottles. Each of them, sealed with a rubber lid and a metal rim, is enclosed in a package with a label, name, date of issue and date of sale, indicating the composition of the preparation, as well as information about the manufacturer. The package contains enclosed instruction.

Important! During prolonged storage, a precipitate may form, which is considered normal and is eliminated by gentle shaking.

Medicinal properties

The principle of action of dexamethasone, which is part of the drug "Deksafort", is to suppress inflammatory and edematous processes, as well as to reduce the body's sensitivity to allergens. The drug is fast-acting due to the easy absorption of substances, but it has a long-lasting effect: as much as possible the drug concentrates in the body after an hour, and the duration of its action is observed over a period of one and a half to eight days.

Indications for use

"Deksafort" is prescribed to agricultural animals: cattle (cattle), pigs, sheep, horses, goats, as well as pets: cats and dogs for the treatment of inflammation, alleviation of edematous conditions and as an antiallergic agent.

Apply an agent for the treatment of such diseases in animals:

  • allergic dermatitis;
  • eczema;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • arthrosis;
  • rheumatoid arthritis;
  • acute mastitis;
  • post-traumatic edema.

Dosage and administration

Injection of the drug is administered once in a volume that depends on the type of animal.

Cattle and horses

For cattle and horses, as for especially large mammals, "Deksafort" is used in the amount of 10 ml. The drug is administered once, intramuscularly.

Calves, foals, sheep, goats and pigs

Dose for smaller cattle and young: 1-3 ml of the drug. Suspension is also administered intramuscularly.

Dogs

"Deksafort" also applies to pets. Dose calculation for dogs is carried out depending on the weight and age of the animal. On average, a single dose of "Dexforta" for dogs is 0.5-1 ml. The instructions for use indicate that the drug is injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

Important! Treatment with Dexafort may be accompanied by antibiotic and other means, depending on the disease. Also, the treatment can be repeated if necessary, not earlier than in a week.

Cats

The introduction of the drug in cats is also under the skin or intramuscularly. Dosage for a single injection of "Deksafort" for cats: 0.25-0.5 ml.

Security and Personal Care Measures

When performing the injection, make sure that your "field of work" aseptic:

  • wool on the site of the future injection cut;
  • skin area is disinfected;
  • the area around the injection is smeared with iodine;
  • needle and syringe are sterile;
  • your hands are sterile and protected by gloves;
  • wearing overalls (bathrobe);
  • may have a gauze mask.

The slaughter of cattle after the application of "Deksaforta" is allowed no earlier than 48 days from the date of the last administration of the medicine. Milk of cows undergoing treatment is not recommended for use for 5-7 days after the injection of the medicine.

Contraindications and side effects

Dexafort Injections do not conduct animals with such diseases:

  • fungal and viral infections;
  • diabetes;
  • osteoporosis;
  • renal failure and other kidney diseases;
  • heart failure.

It is not recommended to administer the drug to pregnant females. Do not use the drug during the vaccination period.

Some animals may have a number of side effects:

  • increased urination;
  • constant thirst;
  • insatiable hunger;
  • Cushing's syndrome (in case of frequent use): thirst, urinary incontinence, strong appetite, baldness, drowsiness, weakness, osteoporosis, weight loss.

Term and storage conditions

The drug must be stored in a dry, dark place, at a temperature of + 15 ... +25 ° C. The term of the implementation of the suspension - 5 years from the date of production. An open bottle must be consumed within eight weeks of opening.
