We build a chicken coop of pallets with their own hands

It is possible to build a simple and inexpensive chicken coop from a variety of materials.

To save on construction, it is built from old boards, materials left over from other buildings.

Wooden pallets are a good option for economical poultry house construction.

Using pallets to build a chicken coop

Pallets or pallets are shipping containers used for the transport of construction and other goods. In shape - this is a rectangular plank double platform on supports-legs. Pallets can be not only wooden, but also plastic or metal. For the construction of the coop will need pallets of wood. Their advantages:

  • made of good wood and can hold a weight of up to 1 ton;
  • have the size suitable for construction;
  • suitable for use in small buildings;
  • they will be a cheap building material - shops can simply throw away unwanted packaging, and therefore the use of such material during construction will reduce the cost of construction.

Their disadvantages are:

  • a pallet is a lattice design and will have to be sheathed with another sheet material;
  • the coop cannot be mobile;
  • the size of the pallet creates a fixed size of the building, so to change it you will need to cut the structure.

Important! In the classification of wooden pallets distinguish European, Finnish and cargo. Their dimensions are respectively: 800x1200x145 mm, 1000x1200x145 mm, 800x1200x145 mm. The first two types have a special stigma on the leg - EURO and FIN.

Choosing a location

The coop is placed on the site so that from the north it is covered with buildings or trees - this will protect it from the cold northern winds. If the landscape is uneven, the buildings are located on elevations, since more moist air accumulates in the lowlands and groundwater may be close to the surface. This will create a raw and uncomfortable microclimate in the hen house.

Build a chicken coop with your own hands

Before starting construction, it is necessary to prepare the site for construction and pallets. Wood is exposed to moisture, so it must be processed to increase the durability of the structure. It is also necessary to cut the timber of the required length for the supporting structures of the chicken coop.

Prepare pallets

Preparation includes several types of work:

  • wood is cleaned from irregularities by a grinding machine;
  • if necessary, the pallets are sawn into pieces of the desired size;
  • treatment with antiseptic against pests;
  • from moisture, you can treat the pallets with varnish (visible parts) and bitumen for those parts that are not visible.
All work is done only with dry and clean pallets. Wet must be dried.

Did you know? Norwegians have found a unique use for pallets. Every year, a tower is built from Ålesund from pallets, which is then solemnly set on fire. In this form, hold a meeting of the summer and the celebration of the sun. In 2010, a record height of the tower was recorded - 40 m.

Options for the construction of chicken coops from pallets

You can build a chicken coop on a special site. For this, a pit is dug, a sandy-gravel pad is laid in it, which is poured with concrete. At this site and set the chicken coop.

As an option, prepare the pillar foundation on which the structure is installed. Each of the options has its own advantages.

Did you know? Pallets are widely used in modern design. They are used to make home and garden furniture, children's camps, and also used for building an outdoor pool (as a frame).

Materials for the construction of the chicken coop:

  • timber for the frame;
  • pallets;
  • insulation;
  • cladding material;
  • slate roof;
  • hinges and heck for doors and windows;
  • glass for windows.

Technology first

The construction scheme of the chicken coop at the site:

  1. Draw a simple dimensional drawing for a chicken coop from a pallet.
  2. Mark the site with construction cord and pegs.
  3. Dig a hole under the foundation (about 20 cm deep).
  4. Fill the sand-gravel mix into the depression (the share of sand is 25%). This will protect the coop from contact with soil moisture.
  5. Cover the sand and gravel pad with concrete.
  6. To process pallets from pests and moisture with antiseptic and bitumen.
  7. Cut the bar of the desired length for the frame of the chicken coop.
  8. When the concrete is dry, install the base of the timber on it.
  9. Attach the timber to the concrete with anchors.
  10. On the timber set a platform-floor of wooden pallets.
  11. Attach pallets with screws.
  12. Corner racks design to perform a bar.
  13. Make the walls of the pallet, fastening them with each other with screws.
  14. Doors to install in the opening prepared for them on the hinges.
  15. Important! Siding is a panel made of wood waste (chips), pressed under high pressure using special resins. The material does not absorb moisture, does not burn and does not require additional care. Its service life is at least 15 years.

  16. In the south wall set the window.
  17. Sheathe walls with siding or other material. If boarding is used, it is necessary to warm the walls and roof of the structure.
  18. The floor of the pallet to cover sheet material (chipboard or other plates).
  19. Top-trim the walls of the timber on which the roof is laid.

Second technology

The construction scheme of the chicken coop on the column foundation:

  1. Dig a hole under the foundation (about 20 cm deep).
  2. Install the base of the pipes for the column foundation.
  3. The pillars inside should be filled with concrete, into which the fittings for fastening the lower strand of the chicken coop are installed.
  4. Around the pillars are also reinforced with concrete.
  5. The rest of the space around them is filled with sand and gravel.
  6. Lay ruberoid on the poles as a waterproofing and timber lower strapping. For fastening, holes are drilled in it and put on reinforcement.
  7. Attach the corner posts of the timber on the trim and lay the floor logs.
  8. Attach pallets to the floor with self-tapping screws and cover with roofing material, and then with plywood.
  9. The walls are made, as in the previous version, from pallets. In this case, the first is attached to the corner stand, then the second is added to it, and so along the entire length of the wall.
  10. When creating a wall, an opening is provided for installing the door and mounting the window.
  11. The door can be made from parts of a pallet and planted on hinges. Similarly, you can install the window - from the glazed frame on the hinges.
  12. Perform wall siding siding.
  13. In the upper part of the design to perform wooden strapping. It has 2 tasks: additional strengthening of the structure and the basis for fixing the roof overlap.
  14. On the trim to fill the floor boards and pull the roofing material. From above to carry out the installation of pallets and cover the structure with slate.

How to make a corral of pallets

Structurally, the aviary is a wall and a roof.

Walls can be:

  • netting, which was fixed on a wooden frame of timber;
  • pallets fastened together;
  • a combined construction: the lower part is pallets, and the upper one is a grid.

The main task of the roof being created is to shelter the paddock from the rain. To solve the problem can be used construction of corrugated, slate, pallet. At the same time on the upper part of the wall is attached sheathing, which is covered with sheet material.

You can also make a sofa and a gazebo from your own pallet.

Necessary materials

For the aviary will need:

  • timber for the frame;
  • pallets;
  • slate roof;
  • grid for walking.

Instruction

The enclosure of pallets is carried out in the same way as the walls:

  1. Cut the bar to the desired height for the walls of the aviary.
  2. A wall is assembled from a bar and a pallet: pallet No. 1 is fastened to a side bar, to it is pallet No. 2, and so along the chain.
  3. The enclosure can be made of pallets, like the roof, and covered with slate or corrugated flooring.
The constructed chicken coop can be used both for summer stay of birds, and for winter - in this case, the walls should be covered with siding or insulated with other insulation. The outer surface of the walls can be painted with ordinary enamel - this will provide them with additional protection against moisture and give the chicken house an aesthetic appearance.

Building a house from scrap materials is convenient for its cheapness. In this process will not take more than a few days. Such buildings are especially in demand for small numbers of birds.
