Golden borscht: in Ukraine, the beet has risen to a record high

According to the statement of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPOA), wholesale companies and supermarket chains already have a problem with the purchase of this product. Due to the reduction in the supply of beets, there is already a high demand for it.

Over the last week, the price for a root crop has grown by almost 50% and now, by region, it ranges from 5 to 7 UAH per kg, with old rates for the last week - at 4 UAH. Also, as the Agravery news agency says, the import of imported beets is expected in Ukrainian supermarkets, because the native Ukrainian root crop is not enough in the domestic market of the country. In the meantime, until a foreign beet has gone on sale, prices are rising. For the opinion of analysts, the price of 7 UAH. per kg is not the limit.

Recall that in 2018, the sown areas for beets were reduced and were 280 thousand hectares, which is 13% less than in 2017.
