Greenhouse cucumbers in Russia are becoming cheaper

Last week, Russian producers of greenhouse cucumbers were forced to lower prices for their products, EastFruit analysts share information.

The fall in prices is due to the rapid increase in the area under the cucumbers this year. Because of this, the domestic market is oversaturated with local produce. At the end of the week, greenhouse plants shipped cucumber "with prickles" at the price of 90-140 rubles / kg or $ 1.40-2.18 / kg. This is 8% cheaper than it was a week earlier. “Smooth” cucumbers are sold at 65-90 rubles / kg ($ 1.01-1.40 / kg), which is 10% cheaper than in the last days a week earlier.

  • "Smooth" cucumbers fell more in price due to the fact that many buyers were unhappy with their quality. Market participants see several reasons for the situation in the market of domestic cucumber producers. Vegetable samples are stable and continue to grow in volume. At the same time, the demand for this product fell slightly. The sellers were forced to revise the cost of cucumbers and reduce it so that sales would not come to naught, and the warehouses would not accumulate a lot of unsold product.

Currently, the price of greenhouse cucumbers for local cultivation in Russia is 18% less than in the last days of March 2018. Analysts believe that the current situation with the cost of cucumbers is quite typical for spring. Seasonal increase in supply and a small demand for the product lead to its cheaper.
