The basics of designing a dacha

To the suburban area to meet all the expectations of the owners, will require its competent design. This is a place where we want to take a break from a noisy city, and work in the garden and on garden beds.

How to equip your plot of land, so that everything is comfortable, rational and comfortable? This is just some kind of science. Or art? And that, and another. And you must first understand the basics of proper design, before starting to refine their territory.

How does it all start?

The secret to the success of any business - in the right approach.

In our case, before planning something at the dacha (and the plans, as usual, Napoleonic), it is necessary to evaluate the possibilities.

That is, for a start, we have to do an analysis of our territory - which we actually have?

After a stage-by-stage assessment of the properties, we can deal with the site plan - where what will be located.

Here, the mind gives way to fantasy: it is better to build a house in this part of the territory, to lay a flower garden next to it, and a little further - an orchard. And yet this is not all that I would like to place on the site!

But before designing it is necessary to make an assessment of the territory, taking into account several factors.

Estimated factors suburban area

Terrain. If your land is different relief features, it must be taken into account. Steep slope is not the best solution for building a house. A height difference can be used for alpine slides and waterfalls. Landscape design takes into account all the features of the relief.

Plot form. Your land plot can have a different shape - geometric in the form of a standard square or rectangle, rounded, elongated, resembling the letter G, T or P. Naturally, the layout of the site will be different, because you need to make rational use of the whole territory, do not forget about the farthest corners.

Soil plot. Why find out information about the type of soil and its acidity? It is important to select the plants that you are going to grow on your site. Often, it is necessary to cultivate the land - ordering natural soil, delivering peat or chernozem, and applying fertilizers in the places of future planting.

The local district administration can get acquainted with a special map containing information on the soil of land plots. Specialized laboratories can help with soil analysis. Some owners of country sites, as they say, and with a mustache. They possess skills that allow you to independently analyze the soil.

Groundwater level.

This is an important factor in assessing your site, showing the need for drainage.

Where to get this information?

It is at the request of citizens issued by the departments of architecture and urban planning of settlements.

There is another option. In the summer, in dry weather, you need to drill on the territory of 3 - 4 wells of 2-meter depth. The water level in them is checked after a week. The drainage system will have to be equipped if the distance between the soil level and water is less than 1 meter.

Characteristic winds. Windy weather is harmful to some garden plants. Each locality is characterized by winds of a certain direction and speed. You can find out by contacting your local meteorological service. Perhaps the future garden will need protection from blowing, and this must be considered when planning the territory.

Illumination area. How are your possessions located in relation to the cardinal points? Where are the most illuminated places, and where are the shadow? All this needs to be clarified in advance in order to plan the placement of buildings, planting of plants, arrangement of recreation areas.

Country plot styles

Dacha plot - your patrimony, is where to roam your imagination and creative abilities. You can even come up with your own design style. But, if you are not a design specialist, then the result is difficult to predict. Maybe better to know what are the main styles of planning?

Style regular (geometric)

The essence of the style in its name - landscape objects are placed strictly geometrically, as if aligning under the ruler. It is well suited for areas where the terrain is flat. The plants planted in a square pattern, in the form of a circle, a rectangle, a diamond, in a checkerboard pattern, look neatly.

The style is characterized by symmetry - when the landscape attributes in the form of flower beds, ponds, garden sculptures, benches are located on both sides of the main axis.

Landscape style (pictorial)

This style has more freedom and naturalness. Paths can be winding, ponds, flower beds and even garden beds - figured.

Scenic style is appropriate in areas with uneven terrain - height differences, streams, ravines.

Style mixed

And the peculiarity of this style is in the combination of rigor and freedom. It permits a combination of techniques that are characteristic of both the regular and the pictorial style. The style is suitable if the territory has a different relief.

Site design plan

The plot plan (taken at the BTI) needs to be transferred to graph paper.

The optimal scale is 1 to 100.

Then you should break the field into squares.

The size of each is 1x1 cm, which corresponds to 1 square meter of territory.

Now, go on drawing on paper and cutting out all the objects of your site - home, bath, garage, gazebo, garden, alpine slide and so on. Place all these figures on the plan and move them, choosing the optimal location.

Decide on the location of your summer cottage relative to the cardinal points. Planting plants should be planned on the south side. The layout will be more visual if you glue together voluminous paper figures and fashion some of the landscape attributes from plasticine.

Why spend so much effort on self-development of a plan if you are going to invite specialists to improve your site? And in order to communicate with them more objectively and to monitor their work.

As a result, a master plan is drawn up, including:

  • the location of all buildings on the site: home, garage, bath, barn, gazebo;
  • scheme of landscaping the territory;
  • placement of garden paths;
  • the presence of a drainage system;
  • lighting area;
  • water bodies - pool, pond, stream;
  • estimate with the calculation of the cost of each type of work.
