Characteristic

Kamensky - a new variety of potatoes, which is perhaps the best from the Ural breeders bred.

Cultivation is common mainly in temperate climatic zones.

Potatoes have excellent, one can say unique characteristics:

  1. Precocity. Kamensky is an early ripe potato variety, which gives commercial tubers as early as 60 days after planting.
  2. Yield. It is distinguished by high and, most importantly, stable yield indicators: 50-55 tons per 1 hectare of planting land. It should be noted that this yield is much higher than in most foreign varieties.
  3. Drought tolerance. The variety Kamensky is drought resistant. Earlier tuberization contributes to a high yield even in dry years.
  4. Soil requirement. This potato adapts to all types of soil and can be grown under any conditions.
  5. Taste qualities. On a five-point scale, the taste scores Kamensky proudly received 4.8.
  6. Resistance to mechanical damage. The uniqueness of this potato variety is its resistance to damage. The tubers have a "double peel", and if the upper layer is damaged, the pulp is protected by a more dense red skin.
  7. Using. Elite variety of table potatoes, which is suitable for storage.

Potato Kamensky has good keeping quality (97%), but on condition that it is stored at a temperature not higher than +3 degrees. Otherwise, the tubers quickly awaken.

We have prepared for you a series of articles on storage of potatoes in the winter, in boxes, in the refrigerator, peeled, and also on the timing.

Diseases and pests

The most important difference from other potato varieties is that Kamensky has absolute resistance to the Colorado potato beetle!

In addition, there is resistance to such diseases as potato cancer, late blight of tops and tubers, various mosaics and viral infections, Alternaria, Fusarium, Verticilliasis, common scab.

The only minus of this potato can be considered susceptibility to the potato nematode.

Observing agricultural practices and crop rotation, susceptibility to the nematode does not lead to diseases and has no effect on the quality of the potato and its yield.

Caring for Kamensky includes loosening the soil, minor irrigation, mulching and fertilizer. Read more about when and how to apply fertilizer, how to do it when planting.

In addition to the use of fertilizers in the cultivation of potatoes, other agrotechnical methods are often used.

Kamensky - potatoes, which became famous in many countries, not only by its resistance to the main potato pest, but also by excellent taste, early ripening and stability of high yield.
